A start on the stars

Made a start with the stars for my new BOM , it is for our Bee and we will start it in sep/oct this year, so would like to be a few blocks in front of the rest..;))
Een begin gemaakt met de sterren voor mijn nieuwe blok van de maand voor onze Bee en we gaan ermee beginnen in sep/okt dit jaar, dus wil graag een paar blokken vooruitlopen..;))



Every month there will actually be a choice of 2 different stars, this is the block I have chosen for part 1 of this BOM.
Around all the stars blocks there will be a background of little squares and rectangles and also mini stars.

Iedere maand staat er een ster centraal, of eigenlijk twee want er kan gekozen worden tussen 2 verschillende sterren, en hieromheen komt dan nog een achtergrond van allerlei blokjes en rechthoekjes en ook mini sterretjes.
Dit is de ster die ik gekozen heb voor het eerste deel van deze BOM

..and this is the star of my choice for part two, this one is a little smaller.
..en dit is mijn keuze voor deel 2, hij is een ietsje kleiner.
 

The finished quilt will be about 1 meter 50 square (not including the border) and will have 11 stars in total.
De uiteindelijke quilt wordt (zonder de rand) ongeveer 1 meter 50 in het vierkant en er komen in totaal 11 sterren in.



These star blocks are lots of fun to make, just loving all these bright colours.  I'm now going to see what star to make for part 3 and what fabrics to use.
...so much fun!!
Deze ster blokken zijn echt erg leuk om te maken, en ben dol op deze vrolijke kleuren. Ik ga nu kijken welk blok ik ga gebruiken voor deel 3 en welke stofjes daar bij passen
...zo ontzettend leuk om te doen!!

Too long..

It has been too long since I last posted..more than a year. But I am back and will try my best to post more often!
Het is alweer veel te lang geleden sinds ik mijn laatste blog heb geschreven. Maar ik ben weer terug en hoop toch weer wat vaker te gaan bloggen!

Referring to my last post, I did finish the quilt (just in time). Had a lot of problems with the quilting, my machine kept skipping stitches. So frustrating, that meant stopping, unpicking en starting again...the quilt nearly went flying (out the window!) LOL
But it was worth it in the end as (to my big surprise) I was rewarded with a second prize  :)))

Om een link te maken naar mijn laatste bericht, ik heb de quilt af gekregen (net op tijd). Had erg veel last met het doorquilten, mijn machine bleef steeds steken overslaan. Heel frustrerend, telkens stoppen, uithalen en weer opnieuw...het scheelde niet veel of hij was gaan vliegen (uit het raam!) LOL
Maar het was het dubbel en dwars waard want tegen mijn verwachting in toch nog een tweede prijs gewonnen  :)))

All the awarded quilts went on tour and this year they went to Moscow, to my big surprise they had used a picture of my quilt in their catalogue. If any one can read Russian?..I would love to know what it says?? 

De prijswinnende quilts zijn dit jaar o.a. naar een quilt tentoonstelling in Moskou geweest, en tot mijn grote verbazing stond er in het catalogus boekje een foto van mijn quilt. Als iemand russisch kan lezen?..ik ben wel erg benieuwd naar wat er staat??

But back to the present day...I have not been idle and am busy with this year's quilt for the OEQC. The theme is "The People" and I am making something with:

Maar nu weer terug naar het hier en nu...ik heb natuurlijk niet stil gezeten en ik ben alweer druk bezig met de quilt van dit jaar voor het OEQC. Het thema dit jaar is "Het volk" en ik ben iets aan het maken met:

Paperpiecing, these pieces have lots of tiny strips, and thus a lot of cutting..

Paper piecing, deze stukken hebben heel veel piepkleine stroken, levert dus ook heel veel snij- afval op...




This piece is also done with paper piecing..

And it wouldn't be one of my quilts without a drawing in it, first drawn with a waterproof pen en then coloured in with Inktense pencils..

En het zou mijn quilt niet zijn zonder een tekening erin, eerst getekend met een watervaste pen en daarna ingekleurd met Inktense potloden..





Right now I have started the quilting, beginning with the center medaillon.

Ben nu begonnen met het doorquilten, als eerste het medaillon in het midden.





Meanwhile I have also started something completely different, I am preparing the new Block of the Month for our Bee, this time it is going to be a star quilt...but more on that next time!

Ben inmiddels ook begonnen met een heel ander project, ben de nieuwe Blok van de Maand aan het voorbereiden voor onze Bee, deze keer wordt het een sterren quilt...maar meer daarover volgende keer!

Quick update...

Today I started applying the textile medium to fix the colours, it was a little scary at first, but luckily it went ok.

Vandaag begonnen met het fixeren, het was even spannend maar het gaat gelukkig goed.

De bottom half is coloured in with the Inktense pencils and the top half is after applying the textile medium. The colours really pop out and come to life!

Het onderste gedeelte is ingekleurd met de Inktense potloden en het bovenste gedeelte is na het aanbrengen van het textiel medium. De kleuren komen nu echt tot leven!

the pencils are getting shorter..

Yes, I'm still busy with my latest project, I have about 80% coloured in now.
As you can see some colours are used a bit more than others..hahaha :)
Every available hour is now spend on this and the Easter weekend is coming up and I am definitely going to make some good use of that extra free time!
As I don't want to show any pictures of my quilt here just yet, what I can do is show you the quilt that inspired me to start mine.

Ja, ik ben nog steeds heel druk bezig met mijn laatste project, ik heb nu zo ongeveer 80% ingekleurd.
Zoals je kunt zien worden sommige kleuren iets meer gebruikt dan anderen..hahaha :)
Ieder uurtje dat ik even tijd heb wordt er nu aan besteed, het paasweekeinde komt eraan en ik ga zeker goed gebruik maken van deze extra vrije dagen!
Ik kan helaas nog geen foto's laten zien waar ik precies mee bezig ben, maar wat ik wel kan doen is de quilt laten zien die mij heeft geïnspireerd om aan mijn quilt te beginnen.

Isn't it amazing ...!?!,  this quilt is made by Maria Elkins and is called "Windblown"
It is a painted wholecloth and freemotion machine quilted.

Workshop with the Bee

Afgelopen zaterdag hebben we een gezellige dag gehad met de Bee, ik had een workshop appliqueren voorbereid en van de blokken die we hebben gemaakt gaan we een quilt maken die we willen ophangen in "De Serre", de ruimte waar we iedere 2 weken samen komen. 

On Saturday we had a lovely day with the Bee, I had prepared a workshop applique and with the blocks we made we want to make a quilt to hang up in "De Serre" where we meet every other week.

Mijn vriendin had samen met haar buurvrouw een heerlijke lunch voor ons gemaakt en ook een erg lekkere cake voor bij de koffie.

My friend together with her neighbour had prepared a jummy lunch for us and also some delicious cake  for with the coffee in the morning.


Bedankt Riet voor het gebruiken van je foto's, ik had mijn camera wel bij me maar was zo druk bezig dat ik vergeten ben om foto's te maken.

Thank you Riet for using your pictures, ofcourse I had my camera but was too busy to think about taking some pictures.

Verder ben ik bezig geweest met mijn "Oude Meesters" quilt voor OEQC in Veldhoven dit jaar, het begint langzaam aan ergens op te lijken.
Zondag een flink stuk gedaan, best lastig om de huidtinten goed te krijgen.

What else have I been up to, last Sunday I worked on my "Old Masters" quilt for the OEQC in Veldhoven this year. It is starting to take shape now, it is quite tricky getting the skin tones right.



Heb Dear Jane maar even op pauze gezet, dit heeft voorlopig even voorrang, de sluitingsdatum voor aanmelden is 10 mei, en dat is het al gauw!

I have officially put my Dear Jane on hold, have to work on this now as the deadline for entry is 10 May, and that is pretty soon!

Quilt bee and Jane

De afgelopen weken waren weer ontzettend druk, en helaas weinig tijd gehad om te handwerken...afgelopen zondag een heerlijk dagje uit gehad, we zijn naar de Handwerkbeurs geweest in Zwolle met een aantal van onze Bee en afgelopen woensdag was onze Bee avond.
Hier is Henny die haar sampler laat zien aan Riet (links) en Bea (rechts)..ze heeft prachtige diepe rode kleuren gecombineerd met roze en groene stoffen.

Last couple of weeks have been busy again, and I'm finding it hard to find the time to do some stitching...last sunday we had a lovely day out, we went to the "Handwerkbeurs" in Zwolle. This is a craft fair with shops that sell anything to do with needlework, from knitting to embroidery to felting and of course quilting! 

And on wednesday we had our Bee evening.
Here is Henny showing her sampler to Riet (left) and Bea (right)...lovely colour combination with the deep reds, the pinks and greens.

Zij en een aantal anderen zijn de cursus machine patchen aan het volgen bij Marijke Hesse waarbij ze ook speciale randstoffen in de blokken verwerken.

Dit zijn een aantal blokken van Riet.

She and some others in our Bee are following a class with Marijke Hesse on machine patching and they are also using special border fabrics in these blocks.
These are Riet's blocks.

Petra is bezig deze kleurige sampler van de cursus die zij volgt bij de quiltwinkel "Quiltbee" in Dordrecht.
Niet duidelijk te zien op de foto maar de hoekblokken hebben bloemen in trapunto. De quilt wordt met de Quilt-as-you-go methode aan elkaar gezet...ze doet alles met de hand.

Petra is working on this colourful sampler, she is following a class in a quiltshop in Dordrecht called "Quiltbee".  Not very clear in the picture, but the blocks in the corners have trapunto flowers.  The blocks are joined with the Quilt-as-you-go method..she is making this quilt by hand.


En tenslotte nog een kleine update van mijn Jane blokjes, niet zoveel als ik had gehoopt te maken, maar  het zijn er toch weer 2 die af zijn!

Dit is blok E-13, "Moth in a web"
Ik heb dit blok opnieuw getekend zodat hij meer lijkt op het originele blok uit Jane's quilt. Het blok dat in het boek staat is toch wel heel verschillend. Het is genaaid op een ondergrond (ook wel paper pieced of foundation pieced)

Last but not least a litlle update on Jane, not as much as I would have liked to have done, but nevertheless still 2 more blocks that are finished!
This is block E-13 called "Moth in a web"
I have redrafted this block to look more like the original block from Jane's quilt. The block in the book is quite different. Mostly foundation pieced.

Meer heb ik niet te melden, ik ga nu naar boven om wat te werken aan mijn "Old Masters" quilt.

A little behind with Jane..

It has been a very busy week at work this week and I'm starting to get a little behind schedule on my Dear Jane..

Completed these blocks over the last couple of weeks:


This one is block E-12 "Mary Ruth's Corset"
and is completely foundation pieced.



The one below is block F-3 "Snowball", also foundation pieced.

Blocks E-10 / E-6 and E-5 are nearly done, still need to do the applique bits to finish those.

Once they are done (hopefully this week)  I will be sort of back on schedule with 7 blocks for this year.


Yesterday I prepared the foundation pieces for blocks E-9 and E-13.
For E-13 I also redrafted the block to look more like Jane's original block.






Today I have finally started on my "Old Masters" quilt...
Don't want to reveal to much but here part of it taped to the window...my makeshift light-box.

People outside must be wondering : " What on earth is she doing up there!?"..hahaha!

Fingers crossed with this one..;)) Hope what I have in mind is going to work!
