Dear Jane Day with the Bee

Gisteren hadden we een super leuke dag met onze Bee.
Judith Ebbelaar was te gast en heeft ons van alles verteld over de beroemde quilt gemaakt door Jane A. Stickle, de "Dear Jane".


Yesterday we had a fantastic day with our Bee.
Judith Ebbelaar was our guest and she told us all about the famous quilt made by Jane A. Stickle, the "Dear Jane".










Naast ons eigen Bee groepje, hadden we ook een aantal dames te gast waaronder ook een aantal dames van quilt groepen uit de buurt, al met al hadden we een gezellige groep van ongeveer 25 dames.
Judith vertelde heel enthousiast en iedereen hing dan ook aan haar lippen.

We also had several ladies from other quilt bee's from the area visiting, and all together we were with about 25 ladies. Judith's stories were fascinating and everyone was listening intently.

 

Daarna konden we de quilt van dichtbij bekijken, en moesten er natuurlijk ook wat foto's van dichterbij gemaakt worden...

After that we were able to take a closer look at the quilt, and of course take some pictures a little bit closer-up..

En hoe zat het ook al weer met het aanzetten van de biezen...en de mooie schulprand rondom?

En how about the sashings in the quilt..and how do we make that beautiful scalloped border?






Na een kleine koffie pauze zijn we aan de slag gegaan met blokje G-11 "Decisions, Decisions".
Judith heeft ons hierbij haar methode uitgelegd waarbij ze Vlieseline H250 gebruikt..en dat werkt echt super! Van de week gelijk maar wat halen, want dat ga ik zeker ook gebruiken.

After a short coffee break we got to work, we made block G-11 "Decisions,Decisions".
Judith explained to us her method using Vlieseline H250 which worked a treat! I'll definitely be getting some as well.

Ondertussen kwamen er uit de tassen verschillende prachtige quilts tevoorschijn waaronder ook verschillende Dear Janes. Zo ontzettend leuk om te zien allemaal, dames bedankt voor het meenemen!
De quilt winkel DasTof uit Krimpen aan de Lek was er ook bij en tussendoor werd er ook lekker even bij alle mooie stofjes rondgesnuffeld..

In the mean time beatiful quilts emerged from the bags and were shown, amongst them several Dear Janes. Thanks ladies for bringing them, it is such a pleasure to see them all.
The quiltshop DasTof from Krimpen aan de Lek was also present and in between we could look at all the lovely fabrics on display..

s'Avonds nog even mijn blokje afgemaakt..en gelijk een aanteking gemaakt in mijn DJ boek..

I finished my block that evening at home..and noted the date in my DJ book..

Workshop with the Bee

Afgelopen zaterdag hebben we een gezellige dag gehad met de Bee, ik had een workshop appliqueren voorbereid en van de blokken die we hebben gemaakt gaan we een quilt maken die we willen ophangen in "De Serre", de ruimte waar we iedere 2 weken samen komen. 

On Saturday we had a lovely day with the Bee, I had prepared a workshop applique and with the blocks we made we want to make a quilt to hang up in "De Serre" where we meet every other week.

Mijn vriendin had samen met haar buurvrouw een heerlijke lunch voor ons gemaakt en ook een erg lekkere cake voor bij de koffie.

My friend together with her neighbour had prepared a jummy lunch for us and also some delicious cake  for with the coffee in the morning.


Bedankt Riet voor het gebruiken van je foto's, ik had mijn camera wel bij me maar was zo druk bezig dat ik vergeten ben om foto's te maken.

Thank you Riet for using your pictures, ofcourse I had my camera but was too busy to think about taking some pictures.

Verder ben ik bezig geweest met mijn "Oude Meesters" quilt voor OEQC in Veldhoven dit jaar, het begint langzaam aan ergens op te lijken.
Zondag een flink stuk gedaan, best lastig om de huidtinten goed te krijgen.

What else have I been up to, last Sunday I worked on my "Old Masters" quilt for the OEQC in Veldhoven this year. It is starting to take shape now, it is quite tricky getting the skin tones right.



Heb Dear Jane maar even op pauze gezet, dit heeft voorlopig even voorrang, de sluitingsdatum voor aanmelden is 10 mei, en dat is het al gauw!

I have officially put my Dear Jane on hold, have to work on this now as the deadline for entry is 10 May, and that is pretty soon!

I had a dream...

It feels like a dream.. (and 5 days later it still does!) but it was very real and it really did happen!
Last Wednesday I received a telephone call, with the most exciting news...my quilt entry for the OEQC in Veldhoven had won a prize! And not just any prize it actually won the award for this year's Theme "Berlin".



















Ever since that phone call it has been an exciting few days, on the Thursday evening I was invited for the championships dinner during which all the prizes were awarded.

My prize was a box full with all spools of Aurifil thread, it has the whole range of colours (!!), I am really thrilled with it as you can imagine..!
I received such a great response to my quilt, it really was overwhelming, I really never expected that.

Friday was time to pack because on Saturday me and my friend Jo were going to the workshop "Celtic Connections" with the lovely Pat Archibald.
If you ever have the opportunity to go to one of her classes I would highly recommend it.
Take a look at her website here, she makes the most amazing quilts.

We stayed the night in Veldhoven and after a lovely (big!) breakfast on Sunday we took our time to look at all the quilts in the show and of course we took a tour around all the shops.. ;-))

My quilt and all the other winning quilts will be going on a small trip around the world, first they will be on display in Houston (during market and festival) and they are also going to Berlin twice, first in November at the Kreativ Tage Berlin and then again in May-June at the EXPO Berlin.
I can't believe my quilt is actually going to Houston!! :-))

Next year's theme for the OEQC is going to be "Old Masters", I've already got an idea in my head what to do with that so...  see how that develops, in any case..I've got lots of colours of thread, something colourful perhaps?

Just a quick picture of what we made during last wednesday's workshop at Trees...

Tyvek paper version

Last wednesday I had the pleasure of attending a workshop with Trees.

We learned to use new materials, like Tyvek which we painted first and then heat treated with either a heat gun or an iron:

Afgelopen woensdag met veel plezier een workshop gevolgd bij Trees. We hebben kennis gemaakt met nieuwe materialen, zoals Tyvek, dit hebben we eerst geverfd en daarna verhit met een heat gun of een strijkijzer:

We also learned about Angelina fibers, we also heat treated these with an iron. This particular one was ironed over a stamp which brought out the pattern nicely.  And made a mini quilt with scraps of plastic.

...

We hebben ook gewerkt met Angelina fibers, deze hebben we ook verhit met een strijkijzer. Deze was gestreken over een stempel, wat een mooi patroon geeft.  En we hebben ook een mini quilt gemaakt met restjes plastic.
